Furman women's tennis player Laura Gioia has been selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA Singles Championship, the NCAA announced today.
Gioia, a junior from Tampa, Fla., is one of 64 players from across the country selected to take part in the singles and doubles competition, which will be conducted May 21-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 15-20). Gioia is currently ranked 86th in the Fila/ITA singles poll.
Before participating in the singles championships, Gioia will lead Furman to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship, where the Paladins will take on Michigan in the first round on Friday, May 9. The match will take place on the campus of Clemson University, and is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. ET.
