SPARTANBURG, S.C. -
The Southern Conference announced today that Furman's Laura Gioia was named women's tennis player of the week for the second consecutive week.
Gioia, a junior from Tampa, Fla., helped the Paladins garner two wins over conference opponents Elon and Georgia Southern. Gioia defeated Elon's Deanna Bailey two sets to one at No.1 singles. Gioia and Manojlovic defeated Elon's Bailey and Milian 8-4 at No.1 doubles.
Against Georgia Southern, Gioia posted a win at No.1 singles by defeating Kristi Kegerreis, 6-2, 6-1. Gioia and Manojlovic won their match at No.1 doubles by defeating Kegerreis and Caforio 8-1.
Gioia is 12-0 at No.1 singles and 8-3 at No.1 doubles. The women's tennis team returns to action Thursday with a road trip to Vanderbilt.
