Ngaruiya was the lone freshman on the Furman women's tennis team in 2006-07. She is the first African player to compete for the Lady Paladins. Ngaruiya was sidelined during the fall of her freshman year due to an injury she suffered soon after arriving at school. In the spring, she competed in eight singles matches at the No. 6 position, going 1-7 for the season and 1-1 in the SoCon.

Prep/Personal: In the fall of 2005, Ngaruiya was the top-ranked junior and senior women's tennis player in Kenya. She represented her country in various tournaments, including the 2004 Group 3 Fed Cup Malta and a 2005 event in Turkey. In 2004, Ngaruiya was ranked fourth in an 18-and-under International Tennis Federation tournament that had participants from 32 countries. Ngaruiya spent three weeks at the Van Der Meer Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., in June 2005, training with various players from all over the world. Wanjiku is the daughter of Mungai and Elizabeth Ngaruiya and was born on May 25, 1989. She intends on majoring in business administration with a focus in marketing.
