Greenville, S.C. -
Junior Rachel Fry, who helped guide the Furman women's soccer team to the Southern Conference Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament bid, has been named SoCon Player-of-the-Month for November, it was announced on Wednesday.
The midfielder earned SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player and all-tournament honors after helping the Lady Paladins secure their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2004. Fry netted three game-winning goals during the month, including two in the league tournament, as Furman fashioned a 4-1-0 record. In the opening round versus Appalachian State, Fry scored the deciding goal in a 3-1 victory.
Playing at host Davidson in the semifinals, the Gambrills, Md., product headed in a dramatic winner with less than three seconds left in double overtime to lift Furman to a 1-0 win over the Wildcats. The semifinal winner marked the second of Fry's career. She headed in an overtime winner to defeat UNC Greensboro 1-0 in the 2005 SoCon semifinals.
The first team All-SoCon pick finished the 2007 season with 12 goals and seven assists. Furman, who fell 2-0 to nationally-ranked Tennessee in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, completed the season at 16-6-1.
