Athens, Ga. -- Freshman Stefanie Kenoyer carded an opening round 75 to pace Furman to a 318 during the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Friday at the par 72, 6,335-yard University of Georgia Golf Course.
After playing the front nine at five-over-par, Kenoyer used three birdies on the back nine to finish at three-over for the day and grab a share of 11th place.. Junior Blair Lamb bounced back from a six-over front nine by playing the final nine holes at one-over to post a first round 79.
Louisiana State's Megan McChrystal fired a three-under 73 to take a two-stroke lead and give the Tigers a five-stroke advantage over the field with a first round 297. Alabama, Georgia and Purdue each posted a 302 to forge a three-way tie for second place. Stephanie Connelly of UCF opened tournament play with a 71 to trail McChrystal by two strokes.
