Sorrento, Fla. -- Junior Blair Lamb fired a first round 72 to pace Furman to an 18-over-par 306 in the opening round of the UCF Challenge at the 6,356-yard RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla., on Sunday.
The Flat Rock, N.C., native notched two birdies and recorded only two bogeys while grabbing a share of 23rd place 18 holes into the 54-hole event. Freshman Stefanie Kenoyer posted a first round 75 to move into 59th place in a field that includes 15 of the country's top 25 teams and 19 of the top 25 individuals.
Southern Cal carded a seven-under-par 281 to take the team lead one stroke ahead of top-ranked Duke at six-under-par. Duke's Alison Whitaker led the field with a seven-under 65 to hold a one-stroke advantage on Auburn's Cydney Clanton after the opening round.
The teams in the Challenge have combined to win 11 national championships ... The medalist from the 2008 UCF Challenge will receive a sponsor's exemption into the LPGA's Ginn Tribute Hosted By ANNIKA (May 26-June 1, 2008).
