Wofford Upsets Furman, Advances in SoCon Women's Basketball Tournament

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sophomore Natalie Gramblin led three Terriers in double-digit points as tenth-seeded Wofford upset seventh-seeded Furman 57-50 in the first round of the Southern Conference women's basketball tournament.

Furman took a seven-point lead in the first nine minutes, which would be the Paladins' largest lead of the game. Wofford recovered to bring the score within one, then took the lead for the remainder of the half, leading by as many as four points and heading into the break with a 27-26 lead.

The Paladins again took the lead to begin the second half, jumping out to 34-29 in the first five minutes of the period. For the next ten minutes of play, neither team led by more than three points. Wofford rallied to a 57-50 win in the last five minutes, led by Gramblin's six good free throws.

Gramblin led the Terriers with 14 total points, while Liz Miller and Mahagony Williams each contributed 10. Kathlyn Varno led Wofford with seven rebounds.

Furman was led by sophomore Lee Stephen's 12 total points, while junior Melissa Liebschwager added 11. Junior Sarah Baker led the Paladins with 10 rebounds, matching her career high and helping the Paladins out-rebound the Terriers 41-38.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 10-20 on the season and will face second-seeded Western Carolina in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament. Furman ends the season with a 10-20 overall record.
