In August of 2004 Jonathon Barbaree joined the Lady Paladin staff following nine seasons at Georgia College and State University.

Barbaree, who earned a bachelor's degree in business management from GC&SU in 1998 and a master's degree in physical education in 2000, spent four years as the Lady Bobcats' assistant coach. Before landing the assistant coach's position, Barbaree was a student assistant and graduate assistant for the Georgia College and State University program.

In two of his last three seasons at GC&SU, the Lady Bobcats reached the NCAA Division II Tournament, and in 2004 advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.

Barbaree is a graduate of Georgia's Rockdale High School, where he earned varsity letters in basketball and baseball.

"Jonathon is a tremendous addition to our basketball program and Furman University," said coach Sam Dixon at the time of Barbaree's hiring. "He has proven himself as an outstanding recruiter because of the success of Georgia College. Jonathon is a great fit at Furman because of his own liberal arts experience, and I am very excited to have him on our staff."
