One of the 2006-07 team captains, Friend is a highly respected individual and leader on the squad.
Friend posted a singles record of 2-1 as a junior, with wins over Sewanee and Washington & Lee. He and partner Andy Sobcyzk also clinched the doubles point at Emory with a 9-8 (1) victory. In 2005, Friend went 13-7 in singles primarily at No. 6, including triumphs against Dartmouth and Georgia. Friend was 1-1 in singles and 0-1 in doubles as a rookie.
Prep/Personal: A singles state champion during his junior and senior years, Friend earned O.C.A. state tennis Player of the Year recognition in his final year of high school. Friend is a business administration major and the son of Jonathan and Mary Jane Friend. He is a member of Furman's Student Alumni Council and Athletic Service Board, and was recognized on the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. He was born August 26, 1984.
