First Round Results 
Senior Ben Goforth carded an opening round two-under-par 70 to grab a share of second place and Furman posted a three-over 291 to earn a share of second after 18 holes at the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Country Club of South Carolina on Sunday.
The Paladins, tied with the College of Charleston, trail nationally-ranked Chattanooga (290) by one stroke entering the second round of the 54-hole event. Western Carolina is five strokes off of the lead in fourth place with UNC Greensboro six strokes behind in fifth place.
UNCG's Nathan Stamey fired a first round 69 to grab a one shot lead over Goforth, Ricky Stout of Western Carolina and Fredrik Qvicker of UTC. Soonam Kim of Charleston rounded out the top five with a one-under 71.
Furman's Austin Reeves and Jonathan Bowden each shot 73 to take a share of eighth place while Garrett Schneider shot 75 and Matt Hayes carded a 76 for the Paladins.
Round two gets underway at 8:00 a.m. on Monday with Furman's five players set to begin teeing off at 8:40 a.m. Final round action is slated for Tuesday morning.
