Greenville, S.C. -
Furman will open play at the Southern Conference Tournament on Friday when it faced the Elon Phoenix in a 5:15 p.m. contest at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The 10th-seeded Paladins concluded the regular season at 7-22 overall and 6-14 in the SoCon. Seventh-seeded Elon, who defeated Furman twice during the regular season, enters Friday's game at 11-18 overall and 9-11 in league play.
Elon claimed a 66-61 come-from-behind victory over the Paladins in Elon, N.C., on December 1. In the second meeting of the year between the schools, Tony Anderson buried a three-point jumper at the buzzer, but the basket was ruled to have come after time expired allowing the Phoenix to escape Timmons Arena with a 60-58 win.
The winner of Friday's game will face second-seeded Chattanooga at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
