The Furman University DanZers have been in existence since 1964. The team is currently comprised of 7 talented members with a variety of dance experience and technical backgrounds (ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap). The DanZers support Furman athletic events (men's and women's football/basketball), performing choreographed routines to a variety of musical selections. The DanZers are also featured within the Furman Paladin Regiment's parade, pre-game, half-time and performances, along with field side appearances. In 2003, the DanZers were awarded first place honors at the Furman Talent Show, and received superior marks for their performances at the Universal Dance Association's camp in Columbia, SC.
Summer Audition Information for 2008-2009 DanZers
If you are interested in becoming a Furman DanZer, please submit an audition video. See the Audition Checklist link below as a guideline for making your video. The requirements are listed, and the captains and sponsors are available to answer any questions you have. In addition to technique, be sure to showcase your excitement and passion to dance. Sending in a video (VHS or DVD) over the summer is easy, and is the best way to join the team because it enables you to demonstrate your abilities without having to come to campus. Being a DanZer is a great opportunity to engage in activity you love, and is a chance to develop lifelong friendships. So what are you waiting for? Send in that video!
Videos must be postmarked by Monday, June 23, 2008 and sent to Dr. Tollison in the History Department. You will be notified of your acceptance by July 1. If you are accepted, you will need to be prepared to come to campus to move in August 17 to start DanZers Camp. Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to receiving your video!
